About Wendy Winks

I discovered the “Power of 10” workout 20 years ago after seeing Lesley Stahl and Barbara Walters cover it on 48 Hours. My first movie for the Hallmark Channel, Santa Jr., had aired just one year earlier, and I was busy prepping my next film for production. A 30-minute weekly workout – high-intensity, super-slow – sounded perfect, and I found a Super-Slow trainer in West Los Angeles.

A busy film producer at the time, Super-Slow kept me challenged and in shape during the next fifteen years – through the production of three more films (Dog Gone, Hunter’s Moon, and Camp Rock for the Disney Channel), the 2007 writer’s strike, the 2008 bank crash, my job running five Schools of Rock in So Cal, and then founding a charity for kid’s music education called the Rock School Scholarship Fund. My jobs changed, but I loved High-Intensity Weight Training, and that was always a constant.

In 2017, I moved to Idyllwild and became the Head of Marketing for Idyllwild Arts Academy & Summer Program, and I searched the area for a new personal trainer. There were no High-Intensity Training (HIT) Studios nearby, and with no workouts, my left hip started to really bother me. I was scheduled for hip surgery until I found Lisa May, who I used to listen to on KROQ's Kevin & Bean Show, opening The Strength Code HIT Studio in Palm Desert. I became her first client in September 2020, and three years later became her studio's first Personal Trainer. But the best part is that my hip has improved to the point that my surgery has been postponed indefinitely!

As a Personal Trainer, I love working with clients who are motivated to achieve their best physical strength and overall wellness. Having trained with HIT for nearly 20 years with a number of different trainers, I know that what works for me is accountability, consistency, goal-setting, and humor.

I have a passion for this workout because it really does work, and I want to share it with as many people as I can. I tend to take the workout seriously and I will push you just a bit - but it's over in just 30 minutes! One of my clients who is 77, says he comes in twice a week so that he doesn't become someone who can't walk or get in and out of cars, or pull open a door. He's even signed up for a tennis lesson, which is a new sport for him!

There are many studies showing the benefits of high intensity weight training, and how it slows the effects of aging.

I hope to see you in the studio for our free introductory session.
